"Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything." -PLATO
We hope that... our House Concerts bring this kind of meaning to your life- even if it's temporary- that you take this joy with you when you leave, and you want to return and join us again for another evening of what we hope you consider to be exceptional music. ~
******************************************************************** Final Fall 2008 HOUSE CONCERT: FRI., NOV. 21st at 8:00pm Featuring PAT WICTOR, from NYC (see below for details!) Pat will be bringing his brand new CD, "Sunset Waltz"- not yet in stores,
and available for the first time ever in Rochester! Come hear his play his most recent songs in person, and come enjoy our final fall show with us~ ******************************************************************** Things to know about our House Concerts:
TO RESERVE YOUR SEAT: * Send an e-mail to: fredvine@frontiernet.net and provide us with: your name, e-mail address, phone number, & names of guests. This will ensure your seating. You will recieve an e-mail back with pre-payment information as well as concert location. * When advance donations aren't recieved, your name will be on the reservation list as an unpaid guest. We then assume you will pay the "At-the-Door" donation upon arrival. * "Tickets" are distributed to guests on our Reservation List, the day of the performance, as we greet them- they are great for souveniers, as a reminder of your evening with us! * If you do not have Internet access or an e-mail address, or it is close to the Concert date, calling us ahead with your reservation would be suitable: (585) 334-2779 or (585) 223-8447 "DOORS OPEN at ( time)" means... The day of the performance guests are greeted at the door a half hour before the actual performance start time. This allows our performers ample opportunity for sound check, as well as the time concert hosts need for the numerous other related preparation tasks. Everything is done with the intention of making the "best first impression" possible when you are welcomed to each House Concert presented!
THERE IS AN INTERMISSION, usually for 15 minutes. At this time... CDs are for Sale: The featured performer is happy to discuss the recordings and answer your questions, as well as sign any Cds you wish to purchase. What's wonderful about buying their music at this time is that you get your selection autographed, you don't pay sales tax, prices are less than in the stores, & the performer isn't compromised financially, since there's no "middle man". The "Vine Concerts Cafe" is open (otherwise known as Fred's kitchen on non-concert days!): this is the time to chat with other guests while enjoying a variety of refreshments, for $1 each. CHOICES include: a different variety of baked goods brownies, cookies, etc. at each show Hot beverages- regular & decaf coffee, teas, hot chocolate, flavored cappucinos Cold drinks- bottled water, canned soda, lemonade, iced tea.

** THURSDAY, October 23rd, at 7:30pm ** ("Doors open" at 7pm) Newly added performance!! ** FRIDAY, October 24th, at 8:00pm ** ("Doors open" at 7:30pm) FEATURING: Legendary Guitarist, Singer-Songwriter, & Composer, GARNET ROGERS, from Brantford, Ontario, Canada This is an "Exclusive Event"... It's Garnet's only Rochester appearance in 2008! Resolutely independent, Garnet Rogers has turned down offers from major labels to do his music his own way. When barely out of high school, Garnet Rogers was already on the road as a full- time working musician with his older brother, Stan Rogers (now deceased Canadian legend of folk music) in one of the most influential acts in North American folk music. Since then, Garnet Rogers has established himself as a solo major talent. With his smooth, dark baritone, his incredible range, and thoughtful, dramatic phrasing, GARNET is widely considered by fans and critics alike to be one of the finest singers anywhere. He is a man with a powerful physical presence- close to six & a half feet tall with a voice to match. His music, like the man himself, is literate, passionate, highly sensitive, and deeply purposeful. Cinematic in detail, his songs "give expression to the unspoken vocabulary of the heart." GARNET sings extraordinary songs about people who are not obvious heroes, and he sings of the small victories of everyday life. As memorable as his songs are, his humor and quick wit move his audiences from tears to laughter and back again! FRED VINE will treat us to an Opening Performance BOTH evenings~ Festive refreshments being served complimentary. A variety of hot & cold beverages available.~ NOTE: Advance Donation: $20/ At-the-Door $25 To learn more about GARNET, please go to: www.garnetrogers.com
Message from Garnet: "It's an enormous privilege for me to stand up an sing my own songs, but I would really like to be able to have something left behind after the dust is cleared away where people are actually benefitting from the concert at some level. It's non-denominational. It crosses party lines. It's all around you. It's a no brainer: Support your local food bank. Thanks, Garnet" On that premise, Garnet Rogers asks that hosts of all his performances set up a collection place for non-perishable food (canned goods, etc) and personal care items (shampoo, toothpaste, etc.) Thanks to our House Concert guests for bringing contributions! We will bring your donations to the Community Food Cupboard of Rochester.
After thoughts... Raffle Prize, for both nights: poster of Garnet Rogers, with his autograph THURSDAY's Concert Winner: Dave LeFevre ~AND~ FRIDAY's Concert Winner: Mike Turner
E-mail message received from a House Concert attendee... Fred/Cheryl & Garnet - I just want to say thank you – to all of you - for the truly exceptional performance last night and an extremely enjoyable evening. Garnet - the music was terrific, it always is and thank you so much for it – but last night, the ‘Twisting in the Wind/Underpass’ combination, familiar and well-liked songs in CD version, but the degree of power, energy and outrage of them together and performed in that manner was truly amazing. It was something of real value to remember. Cheryl & Fred - We really enjoyed the house party atmosphere - your house, the hospitality, the ‘half-time show’ of cake and conversation, and especially the kindness of the group were real gifts. Thank you! Mary

Karen is a gifted songwriter, drawing you into her world with humor & compassion, telling her stories with such ease, you feel as though you've been invited to her table for supper!
